Swiss architect Roger Diener

"The architect scene has changed a lot since I was a young architect", explains the Swiss architect Roger Diener. "Today, young architects have to be much more focused and really concentrate on their work because the field is almost too open for them. While my generation of architect found the field too narrow, our challenge was fighting to extend the barriers."

Roger Diener took over the Swiss architecture practice his father founded. Known for their subtle, sophisticated Modernist buildings and town plans, Diener and Diener have recently begun to design buildings that add a new lightness and liveliness to the geometric rigor and intellectual clarity that have always characterized their designs.

Today some suggestions,

This sunny summer sunday is the perfect day to ride the bicycle and go somewhere you like.
¡Las bicicletas son para el verano!

some art,

“The very fact of the portrait's allusion to an individual human being, actually existing outside the work, defines the function of the art work in the world and constitutes the cause of its coming into being. This vital relationship between the portrait and its object of representation directly reflects the social dimension of human life as a field of action among persons, with its own repertoire of signals and messages."

Enjoy! ( ) Energy. MUJI-Lab

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami caused great loss of life, devastated the lives of survivors, and affected everyone in the area. The damaged power plants are still a constant concern throughout Japan, and there will be less electric power than usual available this year. That is unavoidable, but rather than resigning ourselves to pessimistically accepting the situation, we believe that this is an opportunity for Japan to turn itself into a smart energy nation.

To translate this belief into action, MUJI approached a number of designers around the world and asked them to provide a design idea as an expression of support for Japan. Each designer was asked to draw his or her idea for energy in daily life within an "Enjoy! ( ) Energy." framework, and describe it in terms that fit within the parentheses.

Ideas that inspire people or bring a smile to their faces will contribute to making the mood in Japan that little bit brighter. Each idea provided for this project is also a testimony to the creator's concern and sympathy for fellow human beings. The ideas received are being published on the MUJI website on an ongoing basis.
